From the Archives

Term 2 in the Archives is a time of catching up with tasks. Often unexpected projects come up as well – one of which happened this last week.

Steve Stefanopoulos, past student and College Archivist in the early 2000s, has been working with the ACC with expanding their website and the history of the ACC in Victorian schools since it started back in 1910. It is definitely worth a look on www.accvic.au to see how this association has expanded the interschool competition in sports such as Athletics, Cricket, Australian Rules Football and Handball from the 1910s to 1930s, to the present day where schools compete and work collaboratively in a variety of Sports, Music, Arts, Debating, Public speaking and Leadership Workshops and more.

To assist in continuing to expand the information available on the website, Steve got in contact and asked if I could provide some historical photos of ACC teams, Championship Teams particularly. This request has started a new project. We have hundreds of photos dating from the earliest days of the school to the late 1990s which are in albums, but need to be identified by date and event. This request has now prompted making a start in this huge task!

I’ve included two photos below of Championship Swimming Teams. The first photo is from 1953 and the second photo shows their next win in 1957. You’ll notice a continuity of some family names , Conway and Archibald being two, and my favourite is the change in S(tephen) Pitt between the two photos.
